In every network marketing business, there comes a time when you find yourself wanting success for your people more than they want it for themselves. Or, maybe you’re depending on them to come through and achieve the next status level, or enroll more people. If you’ve developed a large enough network marketing organization, I’m sure you’ve had those months when the size of your check was riding on one guy doing what he said he was going to do.

So you push him, and push him to get to the next step…

And, he bails on you. He leaves you high and dry! This is called ‘pushing a rope’. No matter how hard you try, and how much you want it, you simply cannot push a rope. If they don’t want it for themselves, you’re fighting a losing battle.

So, what do you do when you find yourself with the urge to push that same rope next month?

Get someone new! Get someone hungry! Get someone who will pull the rope in the same direction with you so everyone can advance together.

Every network marketing group has dead weight somewhere. Don’t try to drag them along kicking and screaming, but leave them where they are, and move on!

More advice on Pushing a Rope…

Leadership - Push vs. Pull?
- Indeed, you can’t very well push a rope. In conclusion, make this strong point to your group:. By “pulling” the rope, it will follow you anywhere. Try to “push” it, and the rope goes nowhere at all. The same can be said for the art of …

Why Push The Rope?
- When was the last time you tried to push a rope? Picture in your mind a rope lying on the ground – let’s make it a good sized rope, say a full inch in diameter and 100 feet long. The rope is laid out completely, from your office, …

Can you really motivate others to succeed?
- You cannot motivate others to want to succeed any more than you can push a rope uphill. Truth is, a person must first want it for themselves before they will ever become successful. If you want it more for someone else than they want it …

This week is our company’s National Convention. And, this is the time for many network marketing businesses to get rejuvenated, back on track after the long summer, and in gear for a new year. Are you going to your company’s convention?

Learning from Leaders at Convention

If not, you’re missing out on a valuable event to help you learn from the leaders. The atmosphere at Convention is amazing and unlike any other event year round. Everyone, from the newly enrolled marketer to the seasoned network marketing veteran attends the Convention to share new products, company news, and unrivaled training on how to become successful in your network marketing business!

Where else are you going to find all the leaders of your company in one spot? And, so accessible to get those pearls of wisdom?

Learning Through Audio and Video Trainings

If you’re not able to attend company events and trainings, the the next best way to learn from the leaders is to listen to and watch the training materials created by those leaders. Sometimes, company’s will create a video from the Convention highlights giving you the feeling that you are actually there with them. You can learn a lot by listening to a CD recording of a training, or a video demonstration of the new products.

Which Leaders Should You Follow?

You should seek guidance and training from leaders who have what you want. Don’t worry about whether they are in your direct upline. A true leader will help you no matter which line you’re in. Look at how they build their network marketing business - Is it ethical? Is it effective? Is it duplicatable? These are the things that should guide your decision on which leaders to follow.

So if you feel you need more guidance in your business, or are a network marketing orphan left without a leader of your own, then go after the help you need by attending events, especially the Convention, and listening to what works for the leaders.

They are bold in their thinking, their vision, their words, and their actions. At PassionFire we teach that BOLD stands for Bringing On Leadership Destiny! …

The Christian model for Network Marketing success - As Network Marketing leaders, it is important to realize that the strength of the vision determines the strength of the followers.

Everyone loves a pat on the back! A friendly “Good Job!” goes a long way. And, when it comes to your network marketing business, it’s important to recognize when your group or an individual in the group does well. Part of being a good leader is celebrating other people’s successes!

What Accomplishments Should Be Celebrated?

That’s easy…almost everything! We should celebrate and recognize people when they advance in the company, when they enroll a new person into their business, when they help one of their personals advance, and when they reach a specific goal they’ve set for themselves (like a certain income level or number of people in their organization).

Ways to Celebrate Success

1. Congratulations eCard
Who said it had to be expensive? An eCard is a great way to recognize someone’s accomplishments and brighten their day without the expense of a gift.

2. Successories
Send a motivational Successories item - as small as a mouse pad, a calendar, or a framed wall print. I have two framed prints in my office and they inspire me daily.

3. Recognition in the Organizational Newsletter
Do you or your upline have a monthly email newsletter that goes out to the entire organization? If so, you can put your people’s success in there for everyone to see. When they see their name spotlighted as an achiever, their level of belief will skyrocket!

4. Recognition on the Weekly Training Conference Call
Every training conference call should begin with celebrating success. Whether its for the smallest task like adding people to a contact list, or presenting to 5 people in one week, or enrolling a new person, recognition in a group setting is important.

5. Gift Certificate or gift card
If your enrollee has hit a milestone, or achieved a new level in the company, or somehow generated an increased income for them and you, reward them with a gift certificate or gift card to their favorite store or restaurant. Get a little creative and offer them house cleaning for a week (if you have an overworked single mom) or pampering at the local salon with a massage, or even a subscription to Audibles for downloadable motivational books on mp3 for their iPod. A little goes a long way!

6. Get together for lunch or dinner (if local)
If you have local group members that have experienced some recent success, take them out to lunch or dinner to celebrate their achievements. It’s a great way to build relationships while praising their good work.

7. Business Tools
Does your company offer training tools or business building tools that your people could benefit from? If so, you can reward their successes with new business tools to help them grow their business even faster!

No matter what you choose to do, make sure you do something to celebrate your group’s success! It develops strong personal relationships and builds trust and strength into your organization. That’s the mark of a true leader!

Most of us, when we begin our network marketing business, have no clue what we’re in for. We’re not prepared for the objections, the rejections, and the attitudes we get from people we are sharing with. That’s why role playing with your new enrollee is a MUST!

Role Playing is the best training tool you have to get your new people ready for what they’ll face. Besides, we need to prepare them so they don’t get discouraged at the first “No” they get. So, what’s the best way to do a role playing training?

Role Playing Training 101

If you have enough people who want to particpate, it’s easier and more efficient to do a role playing conference call. This way 10, 20 or more people can benefit from the practice conversations. Plus, when you have more people participating, they can throw out suggestions of objections or their own experiences along the way. It’s just plain more fun on a conference call or in a large group setting.

Types of Role Playing

There are all types of role playing you can do with your new network marketers. You should strive to include role playing about…

Inviting prospects to a call or presentation

Cold calling leads

Follow up calls

Dealing with “No-shows”

Presenting

Closing

You should have them practice every aspect of these types of activities. For example, one person will volunteer to be the prospect, while another is the marketer. Have the pretend prospect go through an easy scenario where they are rather agreeable and pleasant, all the way to the obnoxious. Sure, we don’t want to scare our newbies away, but they need to know that there are rude people out there, so they know what to say and do when they run into them.

Role playing taps into the most basic learning ability that everyone has - learn by doing. This is a way to get your new enrollees to learn by doing without burning up their warm market or expensive network marketing leads.

I’m sure you’ve seen it before…You enroll a new person into your network marketing business who’s excited and motivated to get started right away and make lots of money. And, then they don’t pick up the phone or return your calls. No one has seen or heard from them. They are Missing in Action (MIA)!

Here’s how I deal with the absent enrollee…

I call them a few times, at different times to give them the benefit of the doubt. People have lives and families and emergencies, so we have to give them a chance. After a week has passed without a word, I switch to email.

I choose an email that specifically addresses their concerns. If they have a sick child, and our products can help, I send them an article on the illness and how natural products help. If they have issues with work, or are working all the time, I send them something about reclaiming their time. It can be anything from a success story, product stories, or personal challenges for stay at home moms, working parents, or illnesses.

The next month I will call again leaving a message with something like…

I came across this article about”such and such” and I thought of you. I just want to see how I can help. Give me a call.

That’s it! Nothing too aggressive or confrontational. Let them know you haven’t forgotten about them and you’re here to support them in any way you can. Then, and only then, you might get a call back and a revived enrollee.

Here’s your prescription for a healthy mental attitude:

Read every day

Listen to 30 minutes of positive people

Write your goals daily

Keep a gratitude journal (Corny - I know, but just do it. It works!)

You know the rush that comes from enrolling a new person into your network marketing business! Now you have the awesome resposibility of holding their hand, walking them through their first days and weeks to create their first story and reach their first income goal.

That means you should be joined at the hip with your new enrollee. I know a guy who takes this concept as far as he can go with it - he moves in with them! That’s right…he flies to the other side of the country, moves in with them for a month, and makes sure they work on building the business every hour and every day they’re awake! It’s intense, but this guy also makes about $100K/month and has broken every advancement record in our company. And, his personal enrollees have advanced faster than any others in the history of the company. Results speak for themselves!

The best way to create duplication is to show the new enrollee the ropes right away. That way, they learn it once, the learn to do it the right way, and from then on they will teach their new enrollees the same thing. Duplication at its finest!

Creating Duplication in the First Month

You have to really partner up with your new enrollee, which means communicating daily, and sometimes more than once a day. So, what do you do with them the first month?

Make a Plan based on their Goals

Focus on money making activities

Do the inviting and presentations with them or for them initially

Here’s what not to do in the first month:

Don’t have them read the company manual

Don’t make them product experts

Don’t get them caught up in the ins and outs of the comp plan

Don’t waste time

Ween Them Off

You can’t have your enrollees dependent on you forever, so make sure they learn by doing. And, that means you have to step back at some point and let them do it WITH you. Then, once they can do it and feel comfortable inviting and presenting the business themselves with your support, have them do it without you there. Along the way make sure to ask how comfortable they are feeling. What areas do they need help in?

Once they get comfortable in their own networking shoes, you can put them in a team with your other group members so they can work together.
